5 Ways To Include Your Partner With Wedding Planning
A problem shared is a problem halfed!
Oh now this one might not sit with everyone, if your like me and a control freak you’ll want to have your finger in every pie yourself.
But planning a wedding can turn into a full-time job if you’re not careful.
So, why not delegate a few tasks and make it a team effort? And apart from sharing the load it will help your partner feel involved in all the planning to,
And what are winter evenings for if not doing flicking through social media at wedding vendors.
So lets have a look this week at some of the things you could delegate to your partner or even one of your wedding party, although this one I’d keep in house.
Team Work Makes Dream Work
The Budget
First up is wedding budget tracking, and honestly, I’d hate this bit myself, so I’d be more than happy to pass it over.
Let them track the spending while you focus on the fun stuff.
So, while they’re crunching the numbers, you can be building your Pinterest wedding board, filled with flower walls and extravagant cake designs.
Think of all the time you’d have if they were handling the wedding budget planning.
Meanwhile, their job is to make sure you don’t accidentally spend the honeymoon money on a six-foot chocolate fountain (although I might have to argue my case on that one).
Finally, you’ll need to get in front of the mirror and practise your best “I had no idea it would cost that much” face for the inevitable conversations when you overspend on flowers.
Cheif Food Taster
Now, this delicious task is everyone’s favourite, including mine, choosing the menu for your wedding day, and of course, the all-important cake tasting.
So, who’s the biggest foodie… you or them?
I think we’d have a full-blown debate over this one in my house.
Let your partner deal with the venue when it comes to choosing the wedding menu, and organising some cake tasting samples from your wedding cake vendor.
Meanwhile, I wouldn’t give them the final say (there’s the control freak in me again), because I definitely wouldn’t want to surprise my guests with haggis balls as a starter 😊
In addition, they can gather menu options from the venue and get in touch with local cake makers across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire for prices and samples.
Then you get to swoop in for the fun part, tasting them all.
Finally, a wee afternoon tea for the cake tasting might be very much in order.
The Tunes
Music for your wedding is one of those things that takes some serious thought.
Do you go with a disco, a live band, or maybe a classy quartet?
Or are you thinking of pulling out all the stops and having all three at different points during the day?
So, while I know how tricky it is for my couples to choose the three key pieces of ceremony music, I can only imagine how tough it is to decide on the rest of the wedding music too.
Does your partner claim they’ve got better taste in music than you?
Well, here’s their chance to prove it.
Put them in charge of sourcing wedding bands and DJs, and if they’re local to Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire, why not turn it into a few date nights out?
Let them track down where bands are playing so you can check them out live.
In addition, they’ll be responsible for creating playlists and choosing special songs, such as the ceremony music and your first dance. (I wouldn’t mind a surprise for my first dance either!)
Finally… maybe have a little sneak peek at those playlists before the big day, just to make sure there isn’t an unexpected Eye of the Tiger moment.
Unless, of course, that’s your jam 😄
Transport
One of the biggest challenges of wedding day planning is figuring out how to get all your guests to and from the venue , especially if you’re not at an all-inclusive spot where everyone can simply roll into bed once the party’s over.
However, for most weddings someone has to take charge of the wedding day transport logistics.
So why not hand your partner the official title of Transport Manager?
Let them dive into the world of taxis, minibuses, and maybe even a vintage car for a stylish exit.
Their mission is simple: find the best local wedding transport options, get the quotes, and make sure the budget doesn’t get left in the dust.
In addition, while they’re at it, remind them to include your transport too, whether that’s getting you to the ceremony or organising a sweet ride home at the end of the night.
Because trust me, you don’t want to be stranded at your own wedding! 😅
Guest List
Managing a wedding guest list is a bit like herding cats, some guests RSVP straight away, while others seem to think they have until the actual wedding day to make up their minds 🙄
That’s where your partner steps in as the official Guest List Manager.
So, get them to take charge of handling the wedding RSVPs.
Set up a shared spreadsheet (you know, for that whole “control” thing) and let them log all the responses as they come in.
As the big day approaches, make sure they’re on top of chasing any missing guests with polite follow-ups, gentle nudges, and maybe even a touch of social media sleuthing if necessary.
Finally, just keep an eye on things to make sure they don’t go rogue and invite their long-lost cousin from 1998.
After all, you don’t want a surprise guest list that’s longer than the original one 😅
Now, I know what you’re thinking “Delegate?
“But I’m the master of planning they won’t do it as well as me”.
Trust me, I know how you feel.
Letting go of even the smallest task can feel like giving away your crown.
But sharing the wedding planning load means less stress for you and more involvement from your partner, which means you can both enjoy the lead-up to the big day a little more.
Plus, who wouldn’t want to relax while someone else manages the budget or hunts down cake samples?
So go ahead, loosen the reins just a bit.
After all, what’s the worst thing that could happen? (Okay, maybe don’t answer that. 😄)
