Lovin this Retirement malarkey, I get to do what Lovin this Retirement malarkey, I get to do what I love all day now, instead of fighting the corporate battles every day. (Now I'm just fighting the puppy bites all day). I get to please myself when I clock on and off, and it's still early clock-on and clock-off, by the way, but I'm in a much happier place, sitting at my wee office desk writing scripts for couples. And the 2027 and 2028 diary is filling up pretty fast, so that'll keep me out of mischief for a long while, hopefully. So when you send the script out, always nervously, and get this back from the couples, then I know what I love doing they are loving to🥰 #ceremonyscripts #clientfeedback #happydays

Let's talk speeches.. Over the last couple of yea Let's talk speeches.. Over the last couple of years, I’ve noticed more and more children and young adults giving a speech at their parents’ wedding, and honestly… I think it’s brilliant. If they’re confident enough to stand up in front of everyone and say a few words, let them! It doesn’t have to be polished. It doesn’t have to be perfectly written. It will be them and their view of your relationship It might be funny, it might be emotional, or it might be a complete mixture of the two. And that’s exactly what makes it so special. Because these aren’t just any speeches. They’re from the people who have watched their parents’ relationship grow, who have seen the highs, the lows, the daftness and everything in between. Imagine looking back on that wedding video years from now and hearing your son or daughter stand up, in their own words, and talk about the two of you. That’s a memory you can’t recreate. So if your child says, “I’d like to do a speech at your wedding”… let them Don’t immediately worry about whether they’re too young, whether it’s going to be perfect, or whether they’ll get nervous. Give them the opportunity, give them a microphone. And maybe give them a wee bit of help beforehand… because nobody wants to discover halfway through that they’ve prepared a 47-minute documentary about Mum and Dad. 😂 But seriously, if they want to be part of your wedding in this way, let them have their moment too; you won't regret it. Meet the Napiers A couple of weeks ago, I had the Meet the Napiers A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of marrying Sophie and Murray in The Stables Meldrum House Country Hotel & Golf Course. It was my first time there, and it was beautiful and the perfect spot for Sophie and Murray and their guests. They are a beautiful couple and were a pleasure to work with, and I love to see how the couple enjoys the ceremony on the day, even if there have been lots of nerves on the build-up, but this couple were as cool as cucumbers all the way through. You don't have to live in Aberdeen to have me as y You don't have to live in Aberdeen to have me as your celebrant! I work with couples from all over Scotland and, sometimes, much further afield too. And no, you don't have to keep travelling to Aberdeen for meetings. Instead, we use Zoom or WhatsApp for our meetings, and if you're up in Aberdeen on the lead-up to the wedding, then we do face-to-face meet-ups. And if we haven't had the chance to meet before the big day, I’ll always make sure we meet face-to-face the day/night before. It still means we get proper face-to-face time together, have a chat, get to know each other, talk about your plans and your story, and I get to know what makes you you. The rest works exactly the same way. Your ceremony is still personal, completely bespoke and written just for you two. ❤ And let's be honest, sometimes it's much easier to have a chat from your sofa in your jammies, especially in winter. Then I work on your ceremony script the same way I do with my local couples. It's still personal. It's still completely bespoke. It's still full of you two. You'll get the same time, care, attention and slightly obsessive note-taking whether you're 10 minutes away, somewhere else in Scotland, or sitting on the other side of the world. 🌎 So if you've found me and thought, "Oh, she's in Aberdeen…" don't let that stop you. The couples on this post weren't local, some as far away as Englandshire, and I've worked with couples from America, Dubai, and Canada, to name a few. If you're happy to have a chat on Zoom, I'm happy to travel a little further than my front door! The One Rule I Hope I Never Have to Enforce If yo The One Rule I Hope I Never Have to Enforce If you turn up to your ceremony completely steaming, I legally can't marry you? That's actually true. Now, a little "Dutch courage" dram to steady the nerves, go for it; I'm not the fun police. But if you arrive doing an impression of a wedding guest at 11pm rather than the actual bride or groom, we've got a problem. Happily, this has never actually happened to me, and I pray it never does; that would be a confrontation I wouldn't like to have. My couples tend to be too busy being wildly excited about marrying the love of their life to also be hammered. And if I had a penny for every bride that says to her groom, "I don't want a kiss stinking of booze" I might be able to retire 😁 It's one of the gentle reminders I give at the rehearsal too. It's not a bad rule either, I don't think. What do you think? What if we don't want..... To sign our marriage s What if we don't want..... To sign our marriage schedule in front of everyone. Well, you can do that. Many moons ago, it was how it used to be, especially in a church wedding, and it is still done that way today in some churches. Daniel and Rosalin didn't want to sign in front of everyone, so after the ceremony was over, the couple, the witnesses, and I all went into a separate room and did the signing, and whilst it was different, it was still lovely.
