The Smiley's/Machin's A couple of weeks ago, I ha The Smiley's/Machin's A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of marrying two beautiful souls, Ruairidh and Tamara, for my first ceremony at Norwood Hall. These two were a lot of fun to work with and had many firsts for me during their ceremony (more on those later). It was a small, intimate ceremony attended by people they had played online with for six years, but never met, along with their close family and friends, and Ruairidh's childhood dog. Confetti is lovely… until you end up with a mouthful of it as you do that group photo, or find it in your underwear later. And many wedding venues these days don't allow confetti, so what options do you have if you can't use confetti? I've looked at some of my favourite confetti alternatives here Bubbles - they look great in photos and won’t stick to your hair. Ribbon wands - perfect for guests who like to wave without spilling their prosecco, and perfect for the kids Dried flower petals – still romantic, still pretty, but kind to the planet. I had the most amazing 3rd quarter of 2025 working I had the most amazing 3rd quarter of 2025 working with some amazing couples, vendors and venues. There's nothing that makes me happier than seeing all those smiley faces on their wedding days, even though they start the day pretty nervous. You can tell by the time the ceremony starts, they've settled in quite a bit, and these amazing photographers capture their emotions perfectly.

But a tip from your celebrant.... Your guests will be reading this while waiting for you to arrive, and some of the juicy details will come out during the ceremony. So maybe save the really good bits for then. But I do love the numbers section – it’s brilliant! Sure, you could pop a camera challenge on a card at each table, but this way saves a few pennies. Why not have an adult version and a separate one for the kids? Give the kids wee cameras to play with, and they’ll be entertained all day. Can someone cover Graham’s eyes before he sees this and thinks I’ve finally got round to planning our wedding? 😂😂 (He’ll probably kill me for that photo too 😁) I’ve seen a few wedding day newspapers at my ceremonies this year, and think they are a cracking idea, so I thought I’d share what I’d include in mine, just to give you an idea of what you can include. Remember, they will be reading these as they wait for you to arrive, so you don't want to give too much away about your actual story in here, or you will be duplicating the script in some bits. I think I'd start with a wee thank you note to our guests, something like this, short and sweet. I’m always on tenderhooks when I send them out, hoping they like what we’ve created, and it’s never just me that creates the story. It’s all three of us. I put into words what they’ve told me and what I’ve noticed, but it takes all of us to shape it into something perfect for the big day. I do love writing a story though. I once got into trouble at work for trying to explain something in an email. It does happen.. When a couple says, "Let's not s It does happen.. When a couple says, "Let's not see it before the day; we trust you know what we like," it’s a huge compliment. I get to know you both in our meetings, and I can usually judge perfectly the kind and amount of humour you want, or if you prefer a traditional ceremony. That trust is an absolute honour, but I have to admit it makes me slightly nervous. I’m happy for you to review the script when it’s ready. I do ask that you don’t show it to anyone. Keep it for the big day so everyone can enjoy it.
